Alex Oates writes profoundly human stories rooted in truth and inspired by society’s underdogs.

He’s the recipient of the Peter Shaffer Commission, a writer on attachment at the National Theatre London, winner of the RSC 37 Plays Award, Best Screenplay at Aesthetica Festival, and part of the Quay Street Productions Mentorship. He has also been twice nominated for Most Promising Playwright at the Offies.

He lives in Cambois, South East Northumberland, a post-industrial community, where he founded The Tute — a charity aiming to raise aspirations through culture.
